Knowing God Program
The Knowing God Program is a one-year program featuring a series of ten classes offered in the first year at CIB. The program leads to a Diploma In Biblical Studies for those who complete the course work. It can be taken as a stand-alone one-year study of the Bible or as an introductory program for Intern Candidacy. (If this program is taken as part of the overall core curriculum, the missing language courses will have to be completed before graduation.)

The Core Curriculum at CIB leads from a two-year A.A. in Biblical Studies to a four-year Bachelor of Divinity degree with an optional minor in Greek, Hebrew, or Early Church Fathers. (Additional minors may be requested but are subject to staffing and the director's discretion.) |

INTERN COURSE REQUIREMENTS Over the four years, every Intern must complete five core classes every semester (except Summer Session). Every year, at least one of these core classes must be a Language Course. (During the second year, two languages will be required.) After the Candidacy year (the first year), ten weekly Ministry & Service hours will be required as part of the Intern's credit hours. |

Summer courses consist of a choice of the following:
o Intensive Greek Grammar
o Intensive Latin Grammar
o Intensive Hebrew Grammar
o Intensive Aramaic Grammar (Prerequisite: Hebrew Grammar)
Only one intensive course can be taken at a time, due to the challenging nature of these courses. Course availability is subject to change, depending on student numbers and available staff.
Interns' schedules will be determined by availability, which is dependent on student numbers and staffing options. The following course catalog gives a brief description of every course that Charnock Institute of the Bible offers.
Interns who graduate with their Bachelor in Divinity will complete a majority of the following courses:
Language Courses
Greek Series
Intensive Greek (Summer Session)(TOP)
This class covers the entire Greek Grammar in ten weeks. Students begin reading the Greek New Testament on the first day of class and proceed to read a NT book from the original Greek (with translation help from the professor).
Greek Grammar I (Make-up Course) (TOP)
This class is for those not able to take Intensive Greek in Summer Session and requires several students to offer it. This class masters the basics of the Greek language in order to read the New Testament in Greek. Students will master the essential grammar needed to go on to Greek Rapid Reading & Syntax studies. NT books of will be read and translated in class by the professor.
Greek Grammar II (Make-up Course) (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Greek Grammar I. Students will continue to master the basics of the Greek language in order to read the New Testament in Greek.
Greek Syntax I Dr. Dennis Dickinson / Prof. Barry Wilson (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Greek Grammar (Intensive/Make-up). This course will translate the Gospel of John 1-12. This course studies the relationship of words in Greek to the overall sentence. Vocabulary memorization continues with mastery of all vocabulary appearing 8 times or more in the Greek New Testament. The student can read most of the Greek New Testament without help by the end of this class. Students will begin translation and reading of large portions of the New Testament and be expected to sight read in class without help.
Greek Syntax II Dr. Dennis Dickinson / Prof. Barry Wilson (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Greek Syntax I. This course finishes translating the Gospel of John (13-21) and studies the relationship of words in Greek to the overall sentence. Vocabulary memorization continues until the student can read most of the Greek New Testament without help. Students will begin translation of large portions of the New Testament and be expected to sight read in class without help.
Greek New Testament Translation I Dr. Dennis Dickinson (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Greek Syntax II. This class will translate Matthew through Acts. Includes study of manuscript variants and translation philosophy. Students will continue to memorize Vocabulary down to words used only one time in the Greek N.T.
Greek New Testament Translation II Dr. Dennis Dickinson (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Greek N.T. Translation I. This class continues part I with translation of Romans through Revelation. Students finish memorization of Greek New Testament Vocabulary.
Hebrew Series
Intensive Hebrew Grammar (Summer Session) Dr. Dennis Dickinson (TOP)
This summer course of Intensive Hebrew will cover the entire Hebrew Grammar in 10 Weeks.
Hebrew Grammar I (Make-up Course) Dr. Dennis Dickinson (TOP)
This class is for those not able to take Intensive Hebrew in Summer Session and requires several students to offer it. This course will cover some components of Hebrew Grammar.
Hebrew Grammar II (Make-up Course) Dr. Dennis Dickinson (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Hebrew Grammar I. This class is for those not able to take Intensive Hebrew in Summer Session and requires several students to offer it. This course is a continuation of Hebrew Grammar I.
Hebrew Translation I Dr. Dennis Dickinson (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Intensive Hebrew Grammar. Translation of half of the Hebrew Old Testament through the year. Students master the Basic Vocabulary of the Hebrew O.T. while studying the background information and context of the books they are translating. Emphasis upon learning to see Christ in the Text.
Hebrew Translation II Dr. Dennis Dickinson (TOP)

Pre-requisite: Hebrew Translation II. Continues Part I and II to complete the Translation of the Hebrew O.T.

Pre-requisite: Hebrew Translation III. Continues Part I - III.
Aramaic Series
Intensive Aramaic Grammar & Translation (Summer Session) Dr. Dennis Dickinson (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Hebrew Grammar. Covers complete Grammar and Translations of all Aramaic sections of the Old Testament in 10 Weeks. A complete Aramaic Vocabulary of the O.T. is mastered.
Latin Series
Intensive Latin Grammar (Summer Session) (TOP)
Summer session Intensive Latin will cover the entire Latin Grammar in 10 weeks.
Latin Reading I (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Intensive Latin Grammar. Continues Latin studies with the reading of authors of the ancient world. Text(s) are determined by the professor.
Latin Reading II (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Latin Reading I. Continues Latin studies of ancient authors.
Latin Reading III (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Latin Reading II. The student begins reading multiple books in Latin.
Latin Reading IV& (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Latin Reading III. The student begins reading multiple books in Latin.
Other Courses
Advanced Hermeneutics (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Greek, Hebrew, and Latin Grammar. This class includes all the various branches of Hermeneutics: research, textual variant studies, and in-depth background materials. All Biblical studies will be done in the original languages; readings in the Vulgate and Septuagint (LXX) will be required.
Attributes, Character & Eternal Plan of God Dr. Dennis Dickinson (TOP)
Pre-requisite: O.T. & N.T. Survey. This class will focus upon the Attributes of God, then expand to include the Character of God, and all in a context of the Eternal Plan which God is carrying out. What God's character Is and Is Not is studied. Modern thoughts and statements about God will be discussed in the light of the conclusions reached. .
Biographies of Great Christians Prof. Rick Lewis (TOP)
This class is designed to familiarize students with many great Christians of the last 2,000 years. Class time will focus upon discussion of their lives, motivations, goals, etc. Students will evaluate the good and the bad in their lives using the Bible as their guide.
Christian Life & Growth Dr. Dennis Dickinson (TOP)
Pre-requisite: O.T. & N.T. Survey. This is a complete discipleship course which begins with one's Conversion and the steps which lead to maturity. Designed to cover all the major areas of the Christian Life from salvation to maturity.
Early Church Fathers (TOP)
Covers Bible Doctrines in the light of the Early Church Fathers and others. Works of the early Church (including early commentaries) are read to discover views that they held and did not hold to.
Early Church Fathers II (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Early Church Fathers I. See above.
Early Church Fathers III (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Early Church Fathers II. See above.
Early Church Fathers IV (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Early Church Fathers III. See above.
Foundations of Biblical Counseling Dr. Bob Compton (TOP)
Pre-requisite: O.T. & N.T. Survey & Intro to Biblical Tools & Research. Biblical Counseling is not Biblical unless it comes directly from the Bible. Everything else is non-Biblical counseling. Students will learn to use the Bible to address many of the problems men and women face today.
History of Missions (TOP)
This class will look at the history of missions beginning with Paul & Barnabus and tracing the lives of missionaries through Church History until the present. The History of Missions will be studied primarily through biographies.
Introduction to Biblical Tools & Research Dr. Dennis Dickinson (TOP)
This class requires an Apple laptop computer with wireless Internet capabilities. Using Bible software and the Internet, along with other scholarly tools, we will learn to study the Bible. Students first learn the Greek and Hebrew alphabets, then put those to use with concordances, dictionaries, lexicons, etc. This course is required for Inductive New Testament Survey, O.T. Survey, and most classes in the 2nd Semester.
Introduction to Church History (TOP)
This class begins with the Apostles and continues to today. Major works are read and major events are discussed including the latest movements in the Church. Original documents throughout history are a part of this course.
Life & Times of Jesus of Christ (TOP)
This class actually augments New Testament Translation I. Studies the Life and Times of Jesus Christ and includes background studies of the Gospels. Includes studies in Politics, Culture, Religious Movements, etc.
Ministry & Service(TOP)
After the first year, this is repeated requirement. Students must spend ten hours on an approved ministry or service each week. Students must log their hours in their Ministry & Service Log and turn them in to the office monthly.
Ministry & Outreach(TOP)
Students will minister and travel with missionaries to participate in ministry and outreach.
New Testament Introduction Dr. Dennis Dickinson (TOP)
This class focuses on both the text of Scripture and background studies.
New Testament Devotional Survey Dr. Dennis Dickinson (TOP)
This class requires that the student read through the New Testament several times and begin inductive studies. Students will be assigned specific passages to study, which will develop several major themes in the New Testament. Class time will focus on discussion of each passage of the New Testament. A basic knowledge of the Greek and Hebrew alphabet is required..
Old Testament Introduction & Christology(TOP)
Pre-requisite: Hebrew Grammar. Covers background information of Old Testament books as they are translated. This class accompanies Hebrew Translation, researching the books as they are translated.
Old Testament Introduction & Christology Dr. Dennis Dickinson(TOP)
This class requires the reading of the entire Old Testament with an emphasis upon seeing Christ in each and every book. Several major themes are studied. Class time will focus on discussion of the Christology of each book of the Old Testament with an emphasis upon the interpretation of symbols such as the sacrificial system, tabernacle, etc.
Principles of Ministry(TOP)
This course focuses upon principles used by Jesus and His Disciples to carry out their ministries. Students will study the Pastoral Epistles in Greek.
Science & World views Dr. Bob Compton (TOP)
This class shows that there is no conflict between the Bible and science. In fact, modern science was born out of those men of science who virtually all possessed a Biblical world view. Students learn to view all of life & creation in relation to the Creator. To our knowledge, there is no class like this being taught anywhere else.
Thesis I (TOP)
Students begin researching a subject or topic using all the principles learned while at CIB.
Thesis II (TOP)
Pre-requisite: Thesis I. Students finish researching a subject or topic using all the principles learned while at CIB. A public defense is required the last week of classes. Please schedule with the office for a time. Your defense will be in the evening, and it will be open to the public. Staff and select guests (including pastors) will conduct the inquiry.
